G-MAC to play Cleveland 588 wedges

US Open Champion Graeme McDowell will use the classic Cleveland 588 wedges in 2011 after signing a deal with Cleveland and Srixon.

The Ulsterman will also play the brand new Srixon Z-Star XV ball, released later this month and of which we’ll have more details in the next issue of Today’s Golfer magazine.

The move ends McDowell’s association with Callaway and will see him also put Srixon irons into play, although he is currently still testing a number of sets before deciding on which to put in his bag.

The deal for McDowell is a huge coup for wedge-specialists Cleveland and Srixon, who have ferociously fought to gain share in the ball market, since 2001. Both brands are owned by parent company SRI.

McDowell said: “I am really excited about my decision to join Srixon. There is a great energy amongst  the team at Srixon regarding my signing with them and I am looking forward to feeding off this energy going into 2011.”

Under the terms of the deal McDowell will be allowed to play any driver, fairway wood, hybrid and putter of his choosing.
