Kaymer looking forward to Open challenge

Reigning US PGA champion Martin Kaymer says he feels well-prepared ahead of this week’s Open Championship at Royal St George’s.

The classy German, who told us he felt he should have won on his last outing at the French Open earlier this month, also felt a week off in between that event and this week’s flagship tournament was good preparation.

TaylorMade staffer Kaymer told us that he was finally happy with his new R11 driver, and said it was even better than the previous product which he used on his way to the USPGA victory at Whistling Straits last year.

“The new driver is perfect, and a big improvement on the previous model. But this week you can also hit a 2-iron 280 yards, because of the dry conditions,” he added.

Kaymer also revealed that he was looking forward to this week’s tournament, as it demanded a lot of low, “stinger” shots that he admitted to being particularly comfortable playing.

The 26-yearold starts his Open tilt alongside defending champion Louis Oosthuizen and multiple-Major winner Phil Mickelson.
