Nick Watney in the bag: AT&T National

A brand new set of Titleist 712 AP2 irons and a new Scotty Cameron Fastback putter helped American Nick Watney to his second Tour victory of the season at the AT&T National and Aronimink.

Watney had just put the new irons and putter in the bag last week and the change immediately came up trumps, particularly on the greens, as he holed a number of impressive putts to hold off the challenge from KJ Choi and Adam Scott.

The irons are Titleist’s brand new set and along with the new 712 MB’s, 712CB’s and even the 712 AP1’s have been undergoing what Titleist call a “Tour validation” process before they are released to the general public later this year.

A number of other players in the field have already put the 712’s into play, indicating that they are happy with the improvements Titleist have made on the previous models.
