Golfers get a helping hand from Tour stars at The Belfry

Golfers of all abilities and ages took the opportunity at the weekend to learn from the world’s best players, as The Belfry hosted a highly-anticipated Open Day.

Tour stars such as Danny Willett, David Lynn, Gary Boyd and Richard Finch were on hand at the four-time Ryder Cup venue to give expert opinion and coaching clinics to the assembled masses.

In addition to free tuition, attendees were also given the opportunity to test some of the latest equipment as Cleveland/Srixon rolled up with their impressive Tour truck full of new innovations, while another seven manufacturers – including TaylorMade, Callaway and Wilson Staff – were also there to showcase their new gear for 2011.

“With four European Tour players hosting free-of-charge clinics, it was no surprise that visitors were so keen to come along for the day,” said Matt Roberts, Head Professional at The Belfry. “The eight brands had their latest equipment on show, which golfers can now be custom-fitted for, free of charge, once they’ve purchased the clubs at The Belfry,” he added.

As well as long and short game clinics, golfers were also able to test their skills on the putting green and from the bunkers in and around the PGA National Golf Academy, which is where TG undertake the vast majority of their equipment tests throughout the year.

But it wasn’t just seasoned golfers who enjoyed the day, as Gary Silcock, Director of Golf at The Belfry, explained. “Perhaps as important as attracting four European Tour players on the day was the fact that we welcomed such a wide range of golfers, including a significant amount of juniors and also those who had never played the game before.”
