Nike’s X3X high frequency grooves: video feature

When the new rule limiting the volume of grooves on golf clubs was announced a few years ago it sparked widespread head scratching from golf R&D teams across the world as they tried to figure out a way to compensate for the lack of spin.

The rule effectively meant that grooves were less able to efficiently channel dirt, water and debris away from the surface of the club and the result was less spin from the rough and in wetter conditions.

In the video below Nike’s R&D team and staff players including Tiger Woods, Paul Casey and Stewart Cink take a look at how Nike figured out a way to reduce the impact of the groove rule with their new X3X groove pattern, which features on the VR Pro and Pro Combo irons and the VR Pro wedges.
