Ninth outlet opens for Clubstohire.com

Clubstohire.com has opened new stores in Lisbon and the Isle of Man airports, bringing the total number of outlets across European golf destinations to nine.

The innovative scheme, which is run by Ryder Cup star Paul McGinley, allows golfers to hire clubs at the airport on arrival rather than pay excessive airline charges to take their own clubs with them.

They include the latest clubs from the game’s leading manufacturers including TaylorMade, Callaway, Wilson Staff and MD Golf with a week’s club hire available from €35.

ClubstoHire claims the scheme could save golfers somewhere in the region of £1m a year in additional baggage charges with operators such as Ryanair recently announcing a minimum £50 charge per flight for golf bags.

The move into Lisbon is a key one for ClubstoHire given the region’s popularity as a golfing destination.

McGinley’s fellow ClubstoHire director, Tony Judge, said: “Lisbon airport serves around 13 million passengers per year and is the seventh-most-visited city in Southern Europe, so it’s an ideal site at which to open our ninth outlet.

“It’s also the gateway to an outstanding golfing area, with 19 courses within a 45-minute drive from the airport, including Praia d’el Rey, Bom Sucesso, Oitavos Dunes and Penha Longa. So clearly a large number of golfers will be heading there.”

In addition to the new outlets in Lisbon and the Isle of Man, ClubtoHire also has stores in Antalya, Alicante, Murcia, Dublin, Malaga, Edinburgh, and Faro.
