Video review: Ping S56 better player irons

The S56’s offer Ping’s most compact head for the better player. Having said that, they do offer some forgiveness, with a tungsten weight in the toe.

The clubs shot to prominence when South African Louis Oosthuizen won the 2010 Open at St Andrews, weeks before they appeared in pro shops up and down the country.

The tungsten toe weights optimise the centre of gravity for higher-launching long irons and lowerlaunching short irons for more control. It’s a close call between the i20 and these for Ping’s bestlooking iron, but we think the S56 might just edge it.
