Bubba Watson starts off on the road to raise $1m with pink-headed G20 driver

Winning Major Championships may be the ultimate goal for long-hitting Bubba Watson, but the American has also pledged to try and raise $1million for charities this year.

As part of the “Bubba and Friends Drive it to a Million” initiative, Watson’s equipment sponsor PING will donate $300 to the cause for the first 300 drives that he launches over 300 yards in 2012.

And with an average of nearly 315 yards off the tee in the 2011 season, that could be sooner than later, but PING Chairman and CEO John Solheim was more than happy to offer his support to the worthy cause.

“We have always admired how Bubba wears his heart on his sleeve and how generous he is,” said Solheim.

“His objectives are in step with ours – to make the community where you live and work a better place. When he announced his intentions, we thought it was just a natural fit for showcasing his towering drives with a pink G20 driver that makes you smile just to look at it,” he added.

“I’m very fortunate to have great sponsors, and it’s awesome that PING has built me this amazing pink G20 driver and challenged me to deliver,” stated Watson.

“Pink has always made me stand out, but now it’s going to bring attention for a good cause, so I have extra motivation to hit the ball as far as I can. My goal is to make PING pay every cent,” added the Ryder Cup star.

PING have also made an up front donation of $10,000 towards the fundraising event and all of the money raised will go to Phoenix-area charities, chosen by the company with Watson’s support.
