PGA Merchandise Show Blog – Day 1: Demo day

The annual PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando is where the great and the good of the golf industry meet every year to show off their new equipment for the coming season – and Today’s Golfer are here to bring you the latest news and reviews of what will be hitting the stores this year.

First up is the demo day where manufacturers gather on the world’s largest golf range at Orange County National GC and everyone gets a chance to hit the new gear. The monstrous circular range is one of the most impressive sights in golf and the manufacturers were all trying to outdo each other as they competed for the attention of the thousands of PGA pros and media attending the day.

As you would expect, TaylorMade were keen to make a big splash with their new Rocketballz line of clubs and even featured a grandstand on their hitting area where golfing celebrities such as Jim Flick gave demonstrations on the range.

Cobra were another brand looking to make an impression with loud music, drinks, party games and dancing being the order of the day as they look to continue their rebirth as a more youthful, vibrant brand alongside Puma.

The Cleveland/Srixon stand gave Today’s Golfer the chance to hit the much-hyped Classic driver for the first time and it was impressive while Mizuno, known more for their irons, were eager to show off their new MP-650 line of woods which they hope will give them more of a foothold in the driver and fairway woods market.

Of course, there are always a couple of smaller brands that catch the eye as well and STX putters, a brand about to launch in the UK, impressed with a brand new insert as well as a range of changeable face models.

Day two sees the first of two indoor exhibitions and the fact that we’re indoor means we’ll be able to bring you more first looks via Twitter and Facebook so make sure you’re following us at @TheTodaysGolfer and @GolfWorld1 to get the latest updates.

We’ll be featuring lots more of the latest gear that we get our hands on online and in the magazine so stay tuned for updates.
