Westwood wins with PING i20 irons and Nome putter

Lee Westwood won the Nordea Masters for a third time on Saturday, just days after putting PING’s i20 irons and Nome putter in the bag.

The Englishman finished on 19-under-par at the fabulous Bro Hof Slott Golf Club in Stockholm, five shots clear of compatriot Ross Fisher.

Westwood has admitted to having problems with his putting in the past, but the switch to the Nome putter reaped instant rewards.

The Ryder Cup star had also been using the i10 irons since 2007, but with the US Open just a few days away, he’ll be hoping he can deliver more of the same ball-striking brilliance on the other side of the Atlantic in the second Major of the year.

Westwood opened the tournament with a four-under-par 68, and backed it up with a 64 on the second day which included eight birdies. A 68 on Friday was followed by a final round of 69, which was good enough to see off Fisher – Sergio Garcia, Peter Hanson and Mikko Ilonen finished a shot further adrift on 13-under-par.

The Nome putter is one of PING’s larger-headed mallets, and we put it through its paces in our annual putters test recently – to see how it fared, get hold of your copy of TG, which goes on sale on June 14.

In addition to the PING irons and putter, Westwood also switched from their older Tour-W wedges to the Tour-S model for the tournament in Sweden.
