Nike Golf star Molinari shows his class in Spain

Francesco Molinari fired a stunning final round 65 to secure his third European Tour title with victory at the Open de Espana in Seville.

Overnight leader Simon Dyson started well on Sunday with two birdies in the opening two holes, but the Englishman slumped to a disappointing 76 after dropping shots at the fifth, seventh, eighth, 13th, 15th and 17th.

While Dyson struggled, Ryder Cup star Molinari flourished and carded seven birdies in the first 14 holes, before recording four pars to finish with a winning total of eight-under.

Spanish duo Pablo Larrazabal and Alejandro Canizares, as well as Dane Soren Kjeldsen finished in a tie for second, three shots adrift of the Italian who has now moved back into the world’s top-30.

The 29-year-old was using a plethora of Nike Golf equipment, including the new VR_S driver, VR Pro Blade irons, VR Pro Ltd fairway woods, Method Core Proto putter and the brand’s 20XI X ball, which features a revolutionary new resin core.

Molinari will be hoping that his latest victory will be the catalyst for a charge at the automatic qualifying spots for the Ryder Cup, which will be held later this year at Medinah, Illinois.
