FIRST LOOK – Mickelson tests new Callaway X-Forged irons

Callaway look set to unveil new X-Forged irons, after the brand tweeted pictures of four-time Major winner Phil Mickelson testing them.

The new, better player irons have been designed by Callaway Chief Designer Roger Cleveland and combine 1025 Carbon Steel and a pure forging process which offers exceptional feel and precision.

Callaway say that the irons feature a new face design, sole profile and optimised centre of gravity that offers an advantage in the distance stakes too.

The CG location in the longer irons is lower to promote a higher trajectory, while the shorter irons offer a flatter flight as favoured by better players.

The new X-Forged irons also feature aggressive, tightly-spaced groove pattern that delivers high levels of consistency and workability.

The irons should be heading to Europe for the start of 2013, and the likes of Mickelson and Callaway’s other staff players will be hoping they can help get their new year off to a great start.

We will be following the story in greater detail in a forthcoming issue of TG.
