What’s In The Bag: Richie Ramsay

Richie Ramsay picked up his first DP World Tour victory in seven years at the Cazoo Classic, but what did the Scotsman have in his bag for his emotional win at Hillside?

The 39-year-old birdied three of his final three holes to win by a single shot from Paul Waring and take home the Victory moved him up to 175th in the world rankings and ensured he kept a promise to six-year-old daughter Olivia, who he’d told would see him win a trophy.

Today's Golfer What's In The Bag is brought to you in association with Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X golf balls.

“I told her I’d get a trophy,” the former Walker Cup star said. “I haven’t won since my daughter was born and that’s six years. That one is for Olivia. Hopefully she is watching.

“It feels unbelievable, the relief. I kept believing, I knew my game was good.”

Ramsay’s last win had come at the 2015 Tropheee Hassan II. The former US Amateur champion had looked on track to end the drought at the British Masters at The Belfry earlier this year before hitting his approach into the water on the final hole.

There was no such heartbreak this time as the Aberdonian two-putted from the front of the green to spark emotional scenes in Southport.

“I know about what happened at The Belfry, but it is links golf and I feel I always have an advantage when I play links golf and there is nothing better than holing a putt under the gun with the tournament on the line,” he said.

“The way I did it, to hole that putt at the last – hours and hours of practise and it comes down to one shot.

“No matter what happens now I’ll remember it for the rest of my life.”

Ramsay, who is a Callaway staff player, took home a cheque for $297,500, and joins fellow brand ambassadors Pablo Larrazabal, Shaun Norris, Adri Arnaus, Kalle Samooja, and Xander Schauffele in winning on the DP World Tour this season.
