Graeme McDowell In The Bag: RBC Heritage Winning Clubs

Graeme McDowell took his first victory since the 2010 Chevron World Challenge by beating Webb Simpson in a playoff at the RBC Heritage.

The pair finished on nine-under-par at a windy Hilton Head before McDowell clinched victory on the first extra hole after Simpson missed a par putt.

On securing his first success on the regular PGA Tour circuit and moving back into the world’s top-10, the Northern Irishman said: “This is one of the premier events on the PGA Tour and it’s great to have taken a win on this tour. It’s a bit special as it’s a long time since I won and it feels really nice. I played really solidly on Sunday and I holed out well, which was the key to my round.

“I didn’t make a ton of putts this week but I didn’t make many bogeys, and that’s they key to playing well at Hilton Head.”

England’s Luke Donald was tied for third on seven-under-par, after being one of only four players to break 70 on a tough final day.

McDowell matched Donald’s closing 69, but let slip a one-shot lead when he bogeyed the final hole. Simpson then parred the tough 18th, but when the players returned to the last the American couldn’t hole a crucial 12-footer to keep it going.
