Return of the Adams Tight Lies

The Tight Lies woods put Adams on the map, changed the thinking behind club design and shook up the marketing of golf clubs. Now, it’s back.

A new version of the Adams’ famous club aims to combine the original’s upside-down shape (for a lower centre of gravity and ease of use for players who need to hit the ball high) with the firm’s innovative crown and sole slot, which aims to boost the face’s ability to flex and add ball speed. Game-improver technology includes:

Cut-through Velocity Slot Technology creates a hotter face, with twice as much spring-like effect as the original. A low-profile “upside down” design means the bottom of the club is wider than the crown with angular areas in the toe and heel sections produces larger impact area below the ball for better contact and easier launch out of a variety of lies.

The original “Tri-level sole design” reduces amount of turf interaction to increase performance from the fairway, rough or tight lies, and the low profile helps the ball get in the air.

The head has a 26% smaller volume than the average fairway wood, measuring only 133 cubic centimeters. “Velocity Slots” top and bottom allow the entire face of the club to flex at impact more effectively. , giving an “upside-down” look.

Adams’ Senior R&D man Justin Honea told TG: “Tight Lies was designed to help everyone play better golf. The design helps to get the ball in the air, something that most average golfers need. It is also easy to hit out of any lie and consistent results have been seen out of the fairway, off a tee, and out of the rough.

In addition to helping out the high handicaps the Tight Lies has even gained some traction on tour, proving to be easy to hit and workable for the best players in the world.” It has been used by Tom Watson, Kenny Perry and Bernhard Langer so far.
