Brandt Snedeker In The Bag: AT&T National Winning Clubs

Published:

Brandt Snedeker has continued his meteroic start to 2013 by winning the AT&T National Pro-Am to move to world number four.

The American won by two from Chris Kirk, to take his current hot streak to six finishes in the top-three, including back-to-back weeks as runner-up and now a win in his last nine tournaments.

Snedeker said: ” It’s just hard to put into words, to have a stretch of golf like I had the last couple of months. Something you dream about. Something you think that you can do, but you don’t really know until you actually put it together. And I have.

“I’m really enjoying this, and hopefully can parlay this into the best year of my career.”

The Fed Ex Cup leader was the best all week at Pebble Beach, finishing at 19-under-par, including playing the opening seven holes of his final round five-under and shooting his 10th consecutive round in the 60s.

With his fourth win in the last 22 months, Snedeker moves up to the second highest American in the world rankings behind Tiger Woods.

Snedeker made his score early on thanks to a 4-iron to four feet on the par-5 2nd for an eagle, a birdie at the 4th and then a well struck 3-wood to 20-feet for a two-putt birdie on the par-5 6th.

His only slip of the day came when three-putted the 9th for a bogey. But he rolled in a 25-foot birdie on the 10th and then followed that with a 15-foot birdie on the 11th to all but seal the victory.

Rookie James Hahn, making his debut in the final group, said: “I learned that he is a better guy than he is a golfer. The dude is world class. He’s obviously one of the best, if not the best golfer right now, and possibly for the last year.

“But how he conducts himself as a person on an off the golf course, that’s also world class. He deserved to win today. … I’m sure if you ask him, it was never a doubt that he was going to win the golf tournament.”

Runner-up Kirk never got closer than two shots off the lead and missed an eight footer on the 16th that could have put some pressure on Snedeker. He eventually shot 269 (-17), a score that would been good enough to win all but four times at Pebble Beach since this event began in 1937.

The only drama away from the leaders on the final day came from Patrick Reed. His 12-foot birdie putt on the final hole gave him a tie for seventh with Fredrik Jacobson, and kept Jacobson from qualifying for the Accenture Match Play Championship by 0.0002 points.

The final spot in the 64-man field based on the world ranking instead goes to Shane Lowery of Ireland, who did not play this week.
