Tiger Woods In The Bag: WGC-Cadillac Winning Clubs

Tiger Woods held on to his 54-hole lead in the WGC-Cadillac event to claim his 76th PGA Tour win in only 283 career starts.

The American held-off compatriot Steve Stricker, despite making bogeys on two of the last three holes, to win by two at 19-under-par.

Graeme McDowell – playing alongside Woods – saw his challenge fall apart on the back nine and the Northern Irishman eventually tied for third with Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia and Phil Mickelson.

It was the second win of 2013 for Woods and it will give the world number two the chance to overtake Rory McIlroy in the ranknigs with a win at Bay Hill, where the Northern Irishman isn’t playing.

McIlroy himself looked to be getting his season back on-track with a final round seven-under-par 65, which included an eagle and five birdies to finish joint eighth.  

Of his win, Woods said: “I played well this week. It was one of those weeks where I felt pretty good about how I was playing.”

World number 19 McDowell went into the final round as Woods’ closest rival but four birdies were not enough thanks to two bogeys and a double at the 18th.

“I did everything I had to do but I wasn’t putting with the same authority as I was earlier in the week,” McDowell explained. “The way Tiger was playing I was always in chase mode and trying to hole putts too much and trying to make it happen. He was always going to be a tough guy to catch.”
