Cobra reveal new King F6 and F6+ woods

Published:

Cobra may not be the first name you think of when its comes to choosing a new driver, but they’ve always had a solid technology story. We reckon with the new wave of super hi-tech products they’re releasing you should think again before buying a new driver in 2016.

Cobra King F6+ Driver £299

Cobra

Stock shaft: Matrix Black Tie 65M4

Cobra reckon the F6+ is its longest most adjustable driver to date. Where as the King Ltd didn’t have an adjustable cg the F6+ does. They’ve gone all in on the weight saving too. In an industry first the F6+ has a carbon weight track in the sole which along with the carbon crown means Cobra’s engineers have been able to save 18g of mass to locate in a sliding cg weight. The weight can be located in 5 positions from just behind the face to lower spin and launch or moved towards the back of the head to increase moi and forgiveness.

That’s not all the technology either. There’s also a super hot variable thickness 8-1-1 titanium face, a speed channel around the perimeter of the face and a MYFLY8 adjustable hosel which lets you tune loft, lie and shot bias to your own game.

Our first hit:

All in all we reckon the F6+ is a very solid driver, its looks great at address, you get a choice of either a black, white or blue club head and the sound is loud and powerful.  TG’s Equipment Tester and PGA Pro Chris Ryan hit the F6+ on a SkyTrak launch monitor and we saw a 2.8deg increase in launch angle with the weight in the rear position. This extra launch increased carry distance by 10 yards which demonstrates the importance of setting up such a hi-tech driver properly to suit your own game.

Cobra King F6 Driver £249

Cobra

Stock shaft: Matrix Red Tie 60Q4

Cobra say the F6 is its longest and most forgiving adjustable driver which features simple front or back cg adjustability. Cobra’s weight saving technology comes into play with a super lightweight titanium crown, a variable thickness 8-1-1 titanium face and a speed channel allows extra weight to be positioned to increase moi and ball speeds. The cg weight is 10g and can be switched between front and back locations to offer either a penetrating ball flight with more run out or a towering shot shape for maximum carry distance.

Our first hit:

TG’s Equipment Tester Chris Ryan hit the F6 with the weight in both its forward and back positions. An increase of 1.8deg in launch angle with the weight in the rear port added an extra 5 yards of carry distance for Chris. Some manufacturers have spouted for years…if you want to hit it longer, hit it higher and carry it further, which is certainly the case for Chris. All in all its a good looking driver, that sounds solid and its simple adjustability will benefit lots of golfers.
