Wilson Staff reveal new FG Tour F5 Range

Wilson Staff have a long history of making clubs for great golfers but they reckon the new FG Tour F5’s have been developed to meet the needs of every player. The new driver, fairways, hybrids and forged irons are said to have a blend of Feel, Crossover and Distance (F-C-D) to suit every golfers individul playing styles.

“The new Crossover category is for the golfer who wants workability, forgiveness and distance in their clubs,” said Global Director of Innovation Michael Vrska. “Our product design starts and ends with the player in mind and whilst the new F5 designs are geared to suit the eye of the better player our game improvement technology helps complement each golfer’s game.”

Whats new about the range? Well for a start the FG Tour F5 driver is already in play in the bags of Wilson’s staff players Kevin Streelman and Brendan Steele. There’s a new interchangeable sole weight which is positioned close to the face to decrease spin and a new variable thickness “Reactive Face” maximises flex and ball speeds from every spot on the face. The driver is available in two lofts (9° and 10.5°) and each features a six-way adjustable hosel offering loft settings from 8° to 12° in half degree increments. There’s also three adjustable sole weights to allow players to dial in their ideal launch angle, ball speed and spin rate. We’ve had an early hit of the FG Tour and we reckon its deep face, solid feel and powerful sound are well worth a look a look if your after a new driver for 2016.

There’s also matching FG Tour F5 fairways and hybrids which benefit from carpenter 455 maraging steel faces to help maximise ball speeds, and reduce drop off for miss hits. The fairways and hybrids will each be available in 3 lofts and come with a six-way adjustable hosel and an interchangeable sole weight allows you to precisely tune shot trajectory and spin to your own game.

Completing the range is a new FG Tour F5 iron. The forged 8620 carbon steel heads feature a good sized cavity back and speed sole which Wilson say creates a thin face-to-sole transition. This expands the sweet spot lower in the face for faster ball speeds in the long and mid irons. Yes the F5 delivers maximum distance but thanks to the forged heads they still feel great which means a real blend of forged feel and pure distance. A new stabilizing bar behind the thin responsive face provides support but also allows for greater forgiveness while maintaining shot workability.

The new irons will come with either True Temper Dynamic Gold XP steel shafts or MRC Kuro Kage LB 85 graphite shafts and are available in sets from 4-9, PW, GW.  A 3-Iron is also available in RH.
