Callaway reveal new Rogue Irons and Hybrids

Callaway have revealed four new Rogue irons and three new Rogue Hybrids to follow the reveal of their Rogue Drivers and Fairway Woods

Callaway have introduced four new iron sets aimed at various levels of golfer (Rogue, Rogue X, Rogue W and Rogue Pro), and three new Hybrids (Rogue, Rogue W and Rogue X).

It’s only January, but 2018 is already shaping up to be a bumper year for irons. Why? Because the market’s changing so quickly and dramatically. While Sergio – one of the world’s best ball strikers – has gone for a classic set of muscleback blades this season, for the average golfer there are more tech options than ever before.

Callaway’s four new Rogue models cover all the bases, catering for every level of ability and every swing speed with a brand new material inside the head and some clever engineering.

Dr. Alan Hocknell, Senior Vice President, Research and Development at Callaway Golf, commented: “The technical complexity of Rogue Irons propels performance into the unknown. We have created a new class of iron here, beyond anything launched at Callaway before.

“The Rogue philosophy is to break away from established protocols and develop new ways to extract maximum performance from a golf club and this particularly comes to the fore in the exciting new Rogue X Irons.”

Callaway Rogue Irons : RRP £849(s), £1049(g)

The standard Callaway Rogue iron is expected to make up 50% of their iron sales as it’s designed for the everyday golfer. The head is bigger than the Pro, but smaller than the X, and it’s packed full of forgiveness.

Callaway says it’s the hottest iron face they’ve ever created, with the same levels of ex as a driver over a larger area than ever before. The new microsphere material in the internal cavity acts like a sponge, offering improved sound, feel and feedback in a cavity-back iron.

The new Rogue Irons embody Callaway’s Rogue philosophy to break away from established protocols in order to develop new ways to extract maximum performance from a golf club. The key technology at the heart of the new Rogue Irons is Urethane Microspheres. R&D experts at Callaway found that high-COR iron faces promoting faster ball speeds are subject to a significant amount of vibration at impact, resulting in a harsh, ‘clicky’ sound and feel.

Inserting a layer of soft material in the head has proven effective at absorbing vibration to improve feel, but with the unwanted side effect of slowing the face.

Callaway solved this problem with a new urethane material infused with thousands of tiny air pockets called microspheres, which create porosity.

At impact, the microspheres change shape and flatten to create room for the urethane to flex to prevent slowing the face. The urethane also does the job of dampening unwanted vibration that leads to poor sound and feel. Furthermore, multiple innovative clubface technologies work together to deliver more ball speed across a huge area of the face for more average distance.

The enhanced 360 Face Cup employs a shallow, flexible rim around the perimeter that flexes and releases at impact to increase ball speed. Whilst Variable Face Thickness technology (VFT) influences how the face then flexes to promote more ball speed on off-centre hits.

Callaway say: “These irons feature a premium multi-material construction to combine new technologies with advancements to our industry-leading technologies that have helped us become the #1 Iron Brand in Golf. By pushing ourselves to reach unprecedented performance levels, we’ve created the best combination of distance, accuracy and playability ever in a Callaway Iron.”

Callaway Rogue X Irons: RRP £849

The new Rogue X Irons embody the Rogue philosophy to break away from established protocols to develop new ways to extract maximum performance from a golf club.

By combining our revolutionary 360 Face Cup and VFT with lighter weights, longer lengths and stronger lofts, they’ve created a groundbreaking new iron that’s fully geared to max out distance.

Rogue X are an all-out assault on distance. The lofts are strong, the shafts are longer and they’re lighter than the standard iron. The 7-iron is 27°, which is only half-a- degree from a 6-iron in other brands.

Callaway says the lighter, stronger, longer trend has spread over from Japan, so Rogue X are speci cally designed to perform at average and above-average swing speeds. They’re unashamedly aimed at golfers who just want more iron distance… so lots of us.

Callaway Rogue Pro Irons: RRP £849

The new Rogue Pro Irons embody the Rogue philosophy to break away from established
protocols to develop new ways to extract maximum performance from a golf club.

These irons feature a premium multi-material construction to combine new technologies with advancements to their industry-leading technologies. Callaway say by pushing ourselves to reach unprecedented performance levels, we’ve created the best combination of distance, accuracy and playability ever in a Callaway players iron.

Designed to target the needs of better players. It has a compact head, narrower top edges, thinner soles and a shallower cavity, plus less off set.

You get all the benefits of a variable thickness cup face to maximise ball speeds, and tungsten-infused internal standing wave to optimise ball flight and control. Callaway’s urethane microsphere technology in the cavity also dampens vibration, improving sound and feel, without compromising face flex or bounce back.

Callaway Rogue W Irons: RRP £1049

The new Rogue W Irons embody the Rogue philosophy to break away from established
protocols to develop new ways to extract maximum performance.

rogue w

These irons feature a premium multi-material construction to combine new technologies with advancements to our industry-leading technologies that have helped us become the #1 Iron Brand in Golf. By pushing themselves to reach unprecedented performance levels, we’ve created the best combination of distance, accuracy and playability ever in a Callaway Iron.

Brands are wising up to the fact that lots of committed golfers are getting older, and their swings are getting slower – and Rogue W is directly aimed at those players; golfers who now need to hit their 6-iron instead of the 7.

Callaway’s Rogue Hybrids

Following on from its announcement of the Rogue Drivers, and Fairway Woods and Irons, Callaway has revealed the Rogue Hybrids, the world’s first hybrids to feature Jailbreak Technology.

Jailbreak created a shift in ball speed and performance for Callaway’s Epic Driver, and now they have engineered a way to unlock these very same ball speed benefits with the Rogue Hybrid range.

Rogue is the most powerful hybrid that Callaway has ever created, and it’s the first time ever that engineers have put the revolutionary Jailbreak Technology from drivers in a hybrid.

Combining Jailbreak with Callaway’s proprietary Hyper Speed Face Cup technology gives Rogue Hybrids a step-change in ball speed performance across a larger part of the face, promoting increased distance and improved forgiveness.

Along with their power, they are also super-easy to launch and versatile for the total performance package. Rogue Hybrids come in three options, Standard, Women’s and an X model, which takes raw distance performance in a Hybrid to a completely new level.

There’s all the same speed face tech as the other Rogue irons, but the Ws also have weaker lofts, wider soles and a lighter swing weight to ensure they’re easy to launch and very forgiving in the hands of slower-swinging club golfers.

“The overall result of the ‘Jailbreak Effect’, both in these hybrids and the fairway woods, is pretty impressive. We can generate increased ball speed, at the same time being able to reconfigure how the golf ball flies.

“Remember hybrids launch higher without adding backspin, create a flatter overall flight and therefore convert ball speed into even more distance. It is important to recognise that this overall distance benefit is not all being delivered because of Jailbreak alone. It is the result of Jailbreak, the thinnest Hyper Speed Face Cup we have ever produced, and the positive changes in the ball flight trajectory we have engineered. All three parts of the recipe mix perfectly.”

New hybrids accompany most new iron launches nowadays, as they’re such an integral part of buying a new set for club golfers. The new Callaway Rogue hybrid is the most powerful hybrid that Callaway has ever created. And it’s the first time ever that they’ve engineered their Jailbreak Technology from their drivers into a hybrid.

Both Rogue and Rogue X are the first hybrids to feature Jailbreak tech, and to maximise their impact in a smaller head Callaway has increased the face depth. It means every shot gets the full force of the clubface loading and rebounding energy back to the ball.

Callaway say: “The synergy of Jailbreak and our Hyper Speed Face Cup (which has taken us to #1 in the hybrid category) makes Rogue a pioneering achievement. Along with their
power, they are also super-easy to launch and versatile for the total performance package.”

Callaway Rogue X Hybrid: RRP £229

Callaway Rogue X Hybrid features jailbreak technology, promises higher launch and lower spin and has a slighter larger head.

rogue x hybrid

The new Callaway Rogue X Hybrid introduces an entirely unique and innovative construction for a total distance overhaul. For the first time ever, Callaway say they have engineered their revolutionary Jailbreak Technology from drivers into a hybrid.

The synergy of Jailbreak and their Hyper Speed Face Cup combine of these groundbreaking ball speed technologies along with lighter weights, stronger lofts and a larger clubhead are all designed for maximum distance.

Both Callaway Rogue and Rogue X are the first hybrids to feature Jailbreak tech, and to maximise their impact in a smaller head Callaway has increased the face depth. It means every shot gets the full force of the clubface loading and rebounding energy back to the ball.

The Callaway Rogue X version has a wider head which creates a very low CG and high MOI design, with stronger lofts so they’ll gap into a set of X irons.
