Ecco’s spikeless Masters tribute

Ten years after Fred Couples turned golf on its head by wearing the first spikeless golf shoes at the Masters, Ecco are marking the occasion with a special edition of their latest spikeless footwear for their players at Augusta National.

Erik van Rooyen and Henrik Stenson will wear the unique S-THREE hybrid shoes at Augusta this week, showcasing how spikeless tech has moved on in a decade.

Couples wore a pair of the original Golf Street shoes in 2010, sparking a global shift change in golf footwear and spawning dozens of imitations.

The S-THREE is Ecco’s very latest spikeless model, and it features Ecco’s “Dynamic Traction System” hybrid outsole design which featured in the original Golf Street.

The special edition versions that will be worn by Stenson and van Rooyen feature a custom-designed green collar and unique midsole colouring to mark the occasion.

The S-THREE also features a unique moulded midsole with three distinct zones of softness to ensure the right balance of cushioning and stability exactly where you need it.

It’s called “Zonal Fluidform Technology” and means the heel is engineered for medium softness to ensure the right amount of cushioning and comfort, the central part of the midsole has higher levels of rigidity to deliver extra stability through the swing and the front comes with the highest level of softness for more walking comfort.

The uppers are crafted from thicker performance leather, made in ECCO’s own tanneries, with 100% waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex that keeps your feet dry and comfortable.

Though you can’t buy this limited edition Masters special, the standard version costs £180.
