Francesco Molinari player biography

Made history in 2009 when he and his brother, Edoardo, teamed up to win the Omega Mission Hills World Cup, taking Italy to World Cup glory for the first time in their nation’s history.

It was a fitting end to a remarkable season for the golfing brothers during which Francesco achieved his best season to date and Edoardo won the Challenge Tour Rankings. Established himself as one of Europe’s top performers with seven top ten finishes, including second places in Hong Kong and Portugal. Made the cut in the three Majors he played – the US Open, The Open and The US PGA Championship where he finished tenth. That steadfast consistency allowed him to break into the top 50 on the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time in his career, and 14th in the Race to Dubai.

The younger, by nearly two years, of the golfing Molinari brothers, Francesco upstaged even the exploits of his elder sibling, Edoardo, at Castello di Tolcinasco G & CC in Milan in early May 2006, just nine months after Edoardo became the first Italian winner of the US Amateur Championship at Merion. Francesco thrilled the Milanese crowds by capturing the Telecom Italian Open, the first success in the event by an Italian since Massimo Mannelli 26 years earlier. Put up a brave defence of the title in finishing joint third in 2007 after a final round of 65. Enjoys snowboarding in the winter and playing football when not supporting Inter Milan.
