Ian Poulter – Player Bio

Published:

Ian Poulter is often seen as the European face of the Ryder Cup post Seve Ballesteros and Colin Montgomery.

It is not hard to see why; in his eleven Ryder Cup appearances he has won eight and only lost three, including a 100% singles record.

It is perhaps a detriment to the points system that he even needed a pick for the event this year after being arguably Europe’s most in-form man of 2012. He finished T7 at The Masters, T41 at the U.S. Open, T9 at The Open and T3 at the U.S. PGA.

Poulter’s post 2010 Ryder Cup highlight came at the Volvo World Match Play Championship where he won the title beating Ryder Cup team mate Luke Donald 2&1 in the final. He had previously beaten the world number one Lee Westwood, Francesco Molinari and Nicolas Colsaerts to get to there. He also won down under at the 2011 Australian Masters.

He will head to Medinah looking to validate his captain’s pick by securing the maximum points on offer.
