Course Guide to Royal Lytham

Your exclusive guide to Royal Lytham, with comments and insight from Paul Lawrie, Luke Donald and Tom Watson.

Paul Lawrie knows exactly what it takes to win The Open. His closing 67 saw him come from 10 shots back at Carnoustie in 1999 to get into a play-off and then claim the Claret Jug. The Scot returned to the winners’ circle after an eight-year absence at last year’s Open de Andalucia and won again at the Qatar Masters in February, as he did before winning the 1999 Open. A fine Volvo Matchplay in May continued his good form as he stormed back into the world’s top 50.

He is a proven links performer and is noted for his short game – especially crucial at Royal Lytham – so is the ideal man to guide us round this year’s Open venue. Just a few weeks before the event, Lawrie sat down with Today’s Golfer and explained his Lytham masterplan.
