Muirfield Hole 10

Published:

Par 4, 472 yards

It might be six yards shorter, but with the first half of the fairway being moved left, it plays more into the wind and feels a touch longer. The alterations were to encourage players to drive away from the practice ground on the right, but it has also created a slight dog-leg on what used to be a rifle straight hole.

Bunkers line up like landing lights on the right edge of the fairway and a new ‘driving’ bunker has been added to play in the minds of the long hitters.

A low ridge with the twin bunkers crosses the fairway 100 yards short of the green. They don’t come into play, but effectively mask the green from full view.

Fighting the crosswinds, it can be tricky to keep left and the green has been ‘reclaimed’ on the front right, close to the bunkers. This was part of Harry Colt’s design which had been lost over the years.
