Like most of the great links, this is a layout that throws strategy at you almost straight out of the gate.
Another short par 4, but not one where you can reach for the driver and open your shoulders.
It is under 400 yards, but at 290 yards from the tee, the fairway funnels into a narrow gully between mounds which are treacherously bunkered on both sides.
You might as well have a set of red traffic lights positioned there.
Go for the slither of fairway and you are taking an unnecessary risk.
Played downwind, it’s smart to lay up into the left side of the fairway – with as little as a mid-iron – in order to get a view of the target. From there it is a short iron to a long green which climbs towards the back.
The toughest wind on this hole is an easterly and you must be sure to get your yardage calculations correct with the approach. Anything short is sandy.
