dec24 threeaces

Talk about celebrating golfing Christmas in style. Three golfers managed to achieve an amazing piece of golfing history, all bagging a hole-in-one in the same event at Kingsthorpe Golf Club, Northamptonshire.

Amateurs Dick Spraughton (Collingtree Park) and Drew Russell (Farthingstone) and then Overstone Park pro Stuart Kier all succeeded in the deadly deed which apparently only happens once every 100 years!

Competing in the NPGA Winter Series Pro-Am,  Spraughton bagged the first ace as his tee shot on the ninth hole found the bottom of the cup, before Russell did likewise on the same hole a couple of hours later.

Within a quarter of an hour, Overstone pro Kier then holed his tee shot on the seventh to complete an amazing hat-trick.

The remarkable feat took the limelight away from Cold Ashby professional Shane Rose, who won the main prize.

Rose said: “I’ve never known of anything like it before. It was incredible because I actually did see all three!

“I was on the tee with (team-mate) Dick. I was then on the first hole when the second hole-in-one went in on the ninth and then as I played the second hole a few minutes later, I saw Stuart’s ace on the seventh!”
