Golf moves a step closer to Olympic inclusion

Golf will be recommended for inclusion in the 2016 Olympic Games, it was revealed by the International Olympic Committee today.

The IOC executive committee voted for golf and rugby sevens to be put forward, but softball, squash, baseball, karate and roller sports have missed out.

The final decision will be made at the full meeting of the IOC Congress in Copenhagen in October, as it looks increasingly likely that Tiger and co will be competing for gold in seven years time.

Golf last appeared in the Olympics in St Louis in 1904, with its only other outing coming in Paris four years earlier.

Tiger Woods has already revelaed that he would play if golf gets the nod with the proposed plan seeing the world’s top 15 guaranteed a place in the field.
