The Today’s Golfer Winter Fantasy League tees off this week at the South African Open on Thursday.

Defending champion Richard Sterne is in the field at Pearl Valley, alongside a host of player’s hoping to make a fast start to the 2010 Race to Dubai and European Tour newcomers looking to find their feet.

Here are TG’s six picks for this week’s event:

Anders Hansen ($1.5m)
The Dane cemented his place in the world’s top 50 with his third-placed finish at the Alfred Dunhill Championship last week and usually fairs well in South Africa, having won the 2009 Joburg Open.

Simon Khan ($0.5m)
Khan will be looking to kick on from winning Q School and ensure he doesn’t after to return at the end of this season.

Ross McGowan ($0.9m)
The Englishman was quietly effective last season, finishing 12th on the Race to Dubai and claiming his first European Tour victory.

Edoardo Molinari ($1.0m)
The 28-year-old is in a rich vein of form. He was run-away winner of the Challenge Tour Orer of Merit last season and confirmed his place at golf’s top table by winning the Mission Hills World Cup with younger broher Francesco.

Charl Schwartzel ($1.3m)
He usually does well on home soil and he’ll be looking to follow-up last week’s runners-up finish with victory at Pearl Valley.

Richard Sterne ($1.0m)
The defending champion hasn’t been on great form in recent months but a pair of 66s last week shoe he’s back to somewhere near his best.
