Going for a pole-in-one

Published:

A trio of intrepid golfers will be embarking on an epic hike to the North Pole on March 29, and they’re taking their golf clubs with them.

Iain Whiteley, who plays at Brocket Hall, John MacPherson, a Royal St Georges memeber, and Australian David Stanton expect to take around a month to cover the 400 miles to the pole.

But they won’t face their toughest challenge until they reach their goal – when they’ll get their clubs and balls out and have a “Nearest the Pole” contest.

Callaway have generously provided the team with some kit. “We hope to give a thorough winter testing to their all weather gear,” joked Whiteley.

The trip is being filmed for a documentary which will be initially shown in the Middle East, then syndicated worldwide.

The race is being used to raise funds for Combat Stress, Down’s South and Childline. For more information, visit www.pole-in-one.com.
