English Corporate Cup

Stoke Park is hosting the English Corporate Cup on Monday 15th June 2009, for senior executives and their guests doing business in England.

A touch of gold

The Stoke Park Club is located at Stoke Poges, a charismatic town situated on the fringe of the Chiltern Hundreds.  Designed by Harry Colt and officially opened in 1908, Stoke Park is undeniably one of the finest parkland golf courses in the south of England, and is renowned for the exceptional quality and consistency of its greens.

The club’s true 27-hole course is made up of the three nine-hole courses Colt, Alison and Lane Jackson.  The signature hole, the 7th, a short par three upon which the notorious 12th at Augusta was modeled, is considered to be one of Colt’s finest holes.  The 7th has recently been redesigned and now features a lake and a waterfall.

The course itself has seen many impressive rounds in its prestigious history, including the first PGA Matchplay tournament in 1910.

It is also famous for being used as the setting for the golf scenes in the 1964 James Bond movie, Goldfinger.  As Bond and Goldfinger found, there is no heather here at all; the main lines of defence are the abundance of huge stately trees and Colt’s ingenious design tricks which make the fairways appear much wider and more generous than they really are.  Clever fairway bunker positioning make driving tricky and precise iron shots are required, particularly on the par three’s.  The 27 holes available provide a combination of tests and however you tackle them, you can expect a challenging and demanding course – and you will find it hard not to be stirred by the exquisite views as you make your way round.  Little wonder Golf World named the course as one of the top 100 in the world in 2005.

And once you’ve caught your breath, head for the famous 18th century mansion designed by James Wyatt (architect to George III) which houses the clubhouse, hotel and restaurant. Possibly one of the finest meeting and events venues in the UK, Stoke Park is ideal for executive meetings, corporate entertaining, product launches and private celebrations.  The hotel offers luxury 5 star standard accommodation within easy reach of Heathrow and London. 49 exquisite bedrooms open to members and non-members alike; boast the finest in interior design and comfort.  The clubhouse was also featured in the later Bond movie, Tomorrow Never Dies.  Stoke Park is about more than just a great course, with the traditions, events, competitions and atmosphere created over the last 100 years.
