Handicap Tracker: Improve your bunker play

Bunker play is the most difficult part of the game for many amateurs, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

On Handicap Tracker this week only 20% of golfers who found a bunker managed to make a sand save, with this trio in particular struggling:

» Paul Pennington (9.7) recorded just one save from four bunkers on his way to a gross 74 at Wallasey GC. What might have been with some better bunker shots.

» Ernie Owusu (11.7) shot 87 recored with one save from three attempts at Farleigh Court GC.

» And spare a thought for Allun Llloyd (20.9) who found nine bunkers at Bromsgrove GC and only got up-and-down once!

Improving your bunker play is one of the most effective ways of lowering your handicap, so here is a tip from TG Elite Teaching Pro Gareth Johnston that will help you accelerate through the ball, get it on the green and give yourself a putt for a sand save.
