Memories flood back for Poulter at Golf LIVE

Ian Poulter will be able to re-live one of his finest moments when he takes part in Golf LIVE at Stoke Park, Buckinghamshire, on May 14-16.

The world’s No. 6 golfer needs only  to amble onto the National Golf Club Challenge stand in the main exhibition area to find the Walter Hagen Cup he was presented with after defeating Paul Casey in the final of this year’s WGC Accenture Match Play Championship at the Ritz-Calton Golf Club at Dove Mountain, Arizona.

The distinctive Wedgewood trophy is to be on display alongside the three other trophies awarded to the winners of the annual WGC events as well as the new Lee Westwood Cup which will go to winning club at The National Golf Club Challenge Final to be staged at The Belfry in October.

Poulter is one of a strong cast of leading golfers who will be taking part in Golf LIVE is delighted the National Golf Club Challenge is to be highlighted during the events at Stoke Park.

“I am delighted to learn that the National Golf Club Challenge has a stand at Golf LIVE and I can only hope its helps to raise a lot of money for what is a truly worthy cause,” he said.

“It will also be great to be reunited with the Walter Hagen Cup I won in the final at Arizona,” he added. “It was a fantastic day although I’m not sure my fellow Golf LIVE ambassador, Paul Casey, will have a slightly different view on that.”

The National Golf Club Challenge was set up late last year in order to raise a significant sum for Help the Heroes and it has already attracted entries from over 200 golf clubs throughout the British Isles.

The format for the Challenge could not be simpler. Participating clubs will asked to stage a club event on July 24 and 25 with their ten best scores being compared with the returns from other clubs and the six top-scoring clubs being invited to compete in the Grand Final in October. Poulter is a great supporter of the cause and has already agreed to head up the Challenge’s national poster campaign. The poster – encouraging golfers to get involved in the National Golf club Challenge in aid of Help for Heroes – has been distributed to hundreds of golfing venues throughout the UK and will be seen by over one million golfers.

“I am so proud of our troops, their commitment and dedication is something that needs recognition,” said Poulter. “As a sportsman, I can only imagine how difficult it is to deal with the debilitating injuries, both mentally and physically.

“Help for Heroes provides an incredible support for these tough and inspiring people,” he added, “and I’m proud that British golf clubs and golfers are giving their full support. I hope the National Golf Club Challenge raises a huge amount of money and that men and women all over the country have fun participating.”

Poulter is one of several high profile golfers who are participating at Golf LIVE, with the others including current European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie, double US Open champion Retief Goosen, reigning Ricoh Women’s British Open champion Catriona Matthew as well as his compatriot Paul Casey, the man he defeated in this year’s WGC Accenture Match Play final in Arizona.

The golfers will take part in a series of Masterclasses, 3-Hole Challenges, clinics and other activities during the three days of Golf LIVE where they will be joined by top coaches, David Leadbetter and Denis Pugh, and a number of leading celebrities.
