Plenty for juniors to see and do at Golf LIVE

One of the most exciting new additions to Golf LIVE 2011 is the dedicated ‘Growing the Game’ Junior Golf area, which will be hosted by the Golf Foundation, the Lee Westwood Golf Academy and the Kent County Golf Partnership, at the London Golf Club on May 20-22.

Junior golf fans, aged under 16, visiting the event will be able to participate in a host of engaging activities, including masterclass sessions with Lee Westwood Golf Academy coaches, expert tuition from PGA Professionals, a unique ‘Tri-Golf’ game and a Golf Roots Challenge.

One lucky junior golfer will win an exclusive money-can’t-buy competition prize to play with world number two Lee Westwood, while there will be plenty more golf merchandise and goodies to be given away throughout the action-packed weekend in Kent.

Two of the world’s top emerging talents, Rhys Davies and Pablo Larrazabal, will be appearing in the ‘Growing the Game’ area during the event to pass on tips and their European Tour experiences to youngsters hoping to emulate the European duo one day.

Welshman Rhys Davies won his maiden European Tour title at the Trophée Hassan II in March 2010. He went on to enjoy a fine rookie season, finishing 18th in the Race to Dubai with a further three runner-up finishes.

Like many talented young sportsmen, Davies excelled at other sports and once represented Glamorgan at cricket. After enjoying last year’s inaugural event, Davies is thrilled to be able to return to Golf LIVE.

“It was really refreshing last year to interact with the fans in a way we aren’t able to on the Tour. Golf LIVE gives golf fans of all abilities the chance to learn from the professionals. I am especially looking forward to speaking with the juniors, some of which may become future stars of the game.”

The ‘Growing the Game’ area will cater for all standards of golfer, from club members to complete novices, but every guest will have the opportunity to “practice the tips” given to them by the professionals, according to Pablo Larrazábal.

The 2008 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year consolidated his position as one of the Tour’s brightest stars in 2010 with several top-10 finishes and a 3rd place spot at the 2010 BMW International.

He added: “I’m really excited to be part of Golf LIVE at the London Golf Club this year. I’m already thinking about what tips I can give the juniors, and I look forward to seeing them trying to practice some of these at the event. It will be great to give something back to the fans this way.”

The energetic Spaniard is the latest headline name to sign up to Golf LIVE 2011 following the recent announcement of triumphant 2010 Ryder Cup coaching trio, Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley and Thomas Bjorn, joining Colin Montgomerie, Thomas Levet and David Howell at this year’s must-attend golf event in May.

All juniors under 16 are free to attend with a paying adult. Tickets to Golf LIVE start from £45 and are available from the Golf LIVE website at www.golfliveevent.com.
