Wellingborough GC charity event builds momentum

Within a week of being announced the SPARKS charity golf event at Wellingborough GC on Tuesday 7 June 2011 has just five of the 28 team places remaining.

The response to the 2011 Leon Haslam Classic has been overwhelming and the event is heading towards being a sell-out in record-breaking time.

“The event has everything needed for an enjoyable day out in aid of a good cause,” explained World Superbike Championship front runner Haslam. “After the golf there is a fantastic evening in the Harrowden Hall marquee with dinner and entertainment.

“This year’s event is the first for three years at Wellingborough and after its success in the past it would seem that a lot of people are keen to return to the venue and participate in what has always been a great event.”

The event has also gained support from Level 4 Golf and from Callaway and a host of celebrities from Haslam’s own motorcycling World Championships and from other sports and from television are expected to participate.

Two-time Wotrld Superbike Champion Troy Corser has confirmed his participation in the event. The Australian is currently Haslam’s team-mate in the BMW Motorrad World Championship team. Corser joins another double World Superbike Champion, Texan Colin Edwards, in the event.

The day involves an 18-hole team competition around the 6,711-yard Wellingborough GC followed by a gala dinner in the marquee on the lawns of Harrowden Hall with entertainment from All That Jazz and comedian Adger Brown.

There is a total of 28 team places with 23 accounted for and tickets for the evening’s activities have now gone on general sale while limited hole sponsorships remain available.

“We’ve had a great response from our celebrities to the initial announcement of the Leon Haslam Classic,” explained SPARKS golf manager David Barker. “And we’re certain the day will be a huge success and continue to raise awareness of SPARKS.”

SPARKS – SPorts Aiding medical Research for KidS – has donated more than £15m to medical research since 1991 to tackle a wide range of conditions diagnosed in babies and young children.
