Aegean Airlines joins the Gtour ‘Race to Cyprus’

The Gtour, the UK’s leading amateur golf series and Order of Merit Tour, which takes place at courses around the country is pleased to announce the signing of their new sponsor, Aegean Airlines.

Aegean Airlines has supported Cyprus and Greece as specialist golf destinations and is the preferred carrier of the PGAs of Europe and the official carrier of the PGA of Greece and the Hellenic Golf Federation.

A spokesperson for Aegean was delighted to be sponsoring the Gtour’s ‘Race to Cyprus’ tournament. “For the first time, Aegean are now a proud sponsor of the ‘Gtour – Race to Cyprus’ tournament.”

Aegean is also the creator of the international golf tournament, the ‘Aegean Airlines Pro-Am’, the first international golf tournament in Greece, endorsed for six years by the PGAs of Europe.

In 2011 the Gtour Order of Merit was renamed ‘The Race to Cyprus’ following partnerships with Aphrodite Hills, Cyprus Tourism Organisation and Aegean Airlines, as well as existing partners De Vere, Srixon, Golfbreaks.com and Bunker Mentality.

The top 10 players will earn the right to compete in the grand final at Aphrodite Hills, Cyprus, after a two-day semi final event to be held in November where the top 52 in the Order of Merit will compete for a seat on the Aegean Airlines plane.

Aegean Airlines carried 6.23 million passengers in 2010 and during the 2011 summer season will operate in 35 international and 24 domestic routes.

The next event is on Saturday 20 August at De Vere Dunston Hall, followed by the final event of the season on Saturday 17 September at De Vere Mottram Hall.
