Simon wins first Golfbreaks.com Pro-Am

Golfbreaks.com, the leading golf travel company, hosted its inaugural 2011 Pro-Am event at Dona Filipa and San Lorenzo Golf Resort in the Algarve, Portugal, where teams from Ireland, Scotland, England and The Azores battled it out for the top prize.
The Pro-Am competition that ran from January 13th-16th, 2011, was won by Simon Lilly, PGA Professional at Wellingborough Golf Club, and his team – father-and-son pair, Mike and Pete Kemble, members of Woburn Golf Club in Buckinghamshire, and Sonning Golf Club owner, Stuart Crossley.
On winning, Simon Lilly commented: “All the elements seemed to fall into place during Golfbreaks.com’s first 2011 Pro-Am event.
“We were very fortunate with the weather – the blue skies and warm weather presented perfect scoring conditions, the course was in superb condition, and our team played really well together. We are extremely happy to come back with the top prize.”
Jim Long, Director of PGA Relations at Golfbreaks.com added: “Everyone loved our new three round Pro-Am format, which ran from the Thursday night when teams arrived for a welcome dinner to the Sunday afternoon when the tournament closed and competitors were either able to make their way home for work on the Monday or stayed on for an extra night.”
Jim concluded: “There is no doubt this new format is the perfect fit for short haul overseas Pro-Ams and today’s busy golfer, and we are very much looking forward to the upcoming Pro-Ams scheduled for March at the Spanish resorts of Emporda and La Cala.
