Fantasy League: Irish Open preview

We’re into the third week of the Today’s Golfer Fantasy League and after a brief look across the Atlantic for the Canadian Open we are back on the European Tour for this week’s Irish Open.

The tournament returns to Killarney GC for the second successive year and boasts a field full of all of Ireland’s recent Major winners; Darren Clarke, Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington.

The course has many water features and has a target golf style, giving it a very similar feel to Loch Lomond in Scotland. But it’s situated in a valley so wind could become a real factor.

TG’s six-man Fantasy League team for the Irish Open is:

Jamie Donaldson, $1.0m
The Welshman has five top 10s in his last seven starts and hasn’t missed a cut all season.

Ross Fisher, $1.7m
The defending champion will be looking kickstart his season and get back into the world’s top 50 on a course that will fill him with confidence.

Mark Foster, $0.6m
Came close to winning his second European Tour event at the recent BMW International Open and Open de France and finished T14 in his start at the Scottish Open.

Richard Green, $1.2m
The Aussie left-hander got a top five hear last year and comes into this week off the back of three top 16s in his last four tournaments.

Padraig Harrington, $2.5m
The three-time Open champion was runner-up last year and will fancy his chances on home soil, especially if the wind gets up. In need of a good week to climb back into the world’s top 50.

Rory McIlroy, $4.0m
The reigning US Open champion was hit and miss on his only start since then at The Open – where he finished T25 – but is rightly the bookies’ favourite this week.
