Colourful Sanders set for Par 3 event

One of golf’s most colourful and entertaining characters is flying in from Houston for this year’s Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship.

With 20 US PGA Titles and four times a runner up in Major Championships Doug Sanders was a star competitor through the 1960’s & 70’s.

His short putt miss in the open in 1970 which handed another major to Jack Nicklaus is a moment no one can forget… least of all Doug who reckons it cost him many millions of dollars!

Several competitors who were also in the hunt for the claret jug that year will be delighted to renew competition with Doug. Tony Jacklin, Tommy Horton & Maurice Bembridge were all in the top places of the leaderboard that year.

In 1966 Doug finished in the top ten of all four major championships in the same season and had 13 top ten major finishes in his career.

Doug has always been known as a stylish, flamboyant dresser on and off the golf course, earning him the nickname “Peacock of the Fairways”.

Sanders says: “I am really looking forward to coming to the Par 3 Championship and meeting up with so many old pals, it’s sure going to be a lot of fun”

The Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship takes place at Nailcote Hall in Warwickshire from August 9th – 12th.
