Big money on offer in Par 3 Championship

An incredible £15,000 is on offer for the winner of the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship at Nailcote Hall this year.

The most prestigious Par 3 competition in the UK continues to break boundaries and this year is no exception as the prize for this year’s winner has increased by £10,000!

The increase in the prize fund reflects the ongoing commitment by the event organisers to increase interest in one of the finest and now the most lucrative PGA events in the UK.

Over the last three years Nailcote Hall has seen the likes of European Tour stars Robert Rock, Gary Boyd, Oliver Fisher, Graeme Storm, Gary Wolstenholme MBE and David Dixon compete at the prestigious Par 3 Championship.

The highest prize money for a PGA event in the UK currently stands at £10,000 for the winner of the Glenmuir Championship held at the Belfry.

A pioneer for European golf in the 1980’s and 1970’s; Tony Jacklin CBE, will once again host the event which takes place from the 9th-12th August this year. Jacklin has invited close friend Larry Laoretti, winner of the 1992 US Senior Open to compete this year.

The American will be the first professional from the US to compete in the prestigious Championship. Sandwiched either side of the Championship are two fantastic Celeb-Am days that regularly attract celebrities including Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Bobby Charlton, Len Goodman, Peter Shilton OBE, Peter Schmeichel, Jasper Carrott and William Roache MBE.

A new prize structure for the host of European Senior Tour professionals attending the event has been put in place to increase the level of competition and quality of competitors.

The professional with the lowest score over the age of 60 will receive £5,000, while second and third place will receive £3,000 and £2,000 respectively. This additional change to the prize structure could see players over the age of 60 winning not only the Super Senior first prize but the Championship first prize of £15,000 equating to an incredible £20,000. The total prize fund for the event has moved up to £46,000.

The event continues to raise thousands of pounds for a range of charities and this year will be no exception.

Host for the event Tony Jacklin CBE is delighted to host the event for the fourth year running. He said:“The Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship continues to grow each year and the increase in the prize fund has now made it the most lucrative PGA event in the UK. This underlines just how prestigious the Championship is and will only help in attracting more stars from the European Tour.

“Professionals from the European Tour are taking the championship extremely seriously and that is evident with the likes of Graeme Storm, Scott Jamieson and David Dixon playing at Nailcote Hall this year”

Rick Cressman owner of Nailcote Hall is excited by the increased prize fund, saying:“The changes that we have made to the prize fund for this year’s Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship confirms the event is one of the most important and exciting events on the PGA Calendar”

“With star names from the past, the introduction of the Super Seniors Prize fund is particularly appropriate for the over 60’s and this will provide a real competitive edge for these players.

“I am sure that the changes will make the event even more compelling viewing for all of the spectators who attend the event and viewers watching it on Sky Sports”
