TG Blog: Two glorious weeks in Scotland

Tuesday 3 May

The last 17 days have been all about enjoying my golf and not worrying too much about the scoring and my challenge. I visited Scotland and played 15 rounds on 13 different courses. What an absolute joy!

This trip was all about having fun, meeting new people and playing new courses. It didn’t disappoint. There were so many highs and some lows. There were moments of comedy and some moments of stupidity. Hitting to the wrong flag on the Old Course is definitely on this list, especially after having a long conversation on the 10th tee about going for the red flags on the back nine.

The golf in Scotland is unbelievably good, with great courses in abundance, whether links, inland or up in the mountains. Although my golf did not always do the setting justice, I feel I have learned a lot from the trip. I can escape from heather rough as well as anyone after all the practice I’ve had!

I returned to Mount Pleasant on Sunday and had a catch up with my coach, James. I was keen to see just how much had gone wrong while I was away. Thankfully, the news wasn’t too bad.

Some of the fundamentals had slipped; the grip, set-up, rhythm, and impact position have gone out of whack, but I knew that, my scorecards had told me. What was pleasing was that the core game was still there and we were able to put it back together again quickly and move on.

From here on in, it’s all about improving my scoring. Now I’ve got to put all that learning and experience to good use if I’m to have any chance of achieving my scratch goal.
