12 and counting

Most golfers will dream of one day winning their Club Championship, maybe even twice to prove the first wasn’t a fluke.

But St Albans golfer Dee Tolman has blown her dreams out of the water, after winning an unprecedented 12th Ladies’ Club Championship title last weekend at Redbourn Golf Club.

The six-handicapper first struck success 27 years ago in 1985, before going on a six-year unbeaten streak.

Past Ladies Captain, Carol Jones, was Tolman’s closest competitor, but she finished just short.

Ian McDowell, Redbourn Golf Club General Manager, said: “Dee has shown incredible tenacity to come back time and time again to defend her title. The Club Championships are always hotly contested in each category and I congratulate each of the winners on their victories.”

In the men’s event, only the top 30 qualified for the final 18-holes and the overnight lead was shared between Craig Ingram and junior golfers Ben Dunlop and Alex Williams.

The junior golfers outshone their older counterparts as Ben, a promising 16-year-old, took the spoils in the closely fought battle, just one shot ahead of Andy Braddon and fellow overnight leader, Craig Ingram, who finished joint second.

In the Seniors’ Club Championships, Michael Collman scored 81 and emerged victorious while Trish Keens topped the leaderboard in the Senior Ladies’ Championship with a score of gross 90.
