Olympic Spirit Shines At The Shropshire’s family day

The Shropshire Golf Centre saw out the Olympic Games in style as they welcomed more than 125 people to a Family Fun Day dedicated to London 2012.

Those inspired by Mo Farrah, Jessica Ennis and Sir Chris Hoy were vying for gold, silver and bronze medals of their own in a number of fun games and visitors could also have their pictures taken with the Olympic torch thanks to 16-year-old Stuart Watson.

The Telford teenager carried the Olympic flame through Cleobury Manor in the relay that preceded the Games and brought along his torch for visitors to the public pay-and-play centre to really get into the Olympic spirit.

Events including a golf ball and spoon race, sack race, obstacle course and various golf challenges were staged throughout the day, while kind-hearted visitors also helped to raise hundreds of pounds for PRH Hospital and Cancer Research UK.

The Shropshire’s expert PGA Professionals were also on hand to conduct group golf lessons, and with the sport returning to the Olympics at Rio 2016, they could be teaching a gold medal winner of the future.

Visitors were also able to play the Academy Course, a fun Par-3 short golf course, for free throughout the day.

Stuart Perry, The Shropshire Golf Centre General Manager, said: “It was a beautiful sight to see so many families here enjoying the sunshine, posing for pictures with the Olympic Torch and raising valuable funds for charity.

“Our PGA Professionals were kept busy all day, as was our chef who did a superb job keeping a barbecue going to ensure people were fed and watered throughout the event.”
