TG Blog: Wolstenholme reflects on 2011 and looks ahead to an exciting year

Friday 27th January

Well it feels like an age ago since we finished the 2011 season but personally it was a fantastic year and finishing fourth on the European Senior Tour Order of Merit was certainly the highlight.

I was disappointed that I couldn’t notch up another victory adding to my Casa Serena title at the end of 2010, but nonetheless, it was an interesting and successful year. Being crowned European Senior Tour Rookie of the Year was a very proud achievement for me, although it feels odd to have the title at the age of 51!

This year is set to be huge for the golfing world; with a Ryder Cup on the horizon I am excited about the players looking to play themselves into contention for what will be a fantastic occasion.

I have to say it will be Europe’s to lose, they have such a strong group of players and they had incredible unity last time out at Celtic Manor. Jose Maria Olazabal is the perfect Captain, a man who has seen and done it all.

I cannot wait to see if Rory McIlroy will go on and secure another Major. I think there is every possibility and my money might be on the Masters as he will want to make up for his final day misery there last year.

There must surely be something left in Tiger Woods’ locker too. I cannot believe for one minute that a man as talented as Woods will not add to his 14 Majors.

Our stable of golfers at Champions is continuing to progress and this year we will have five players on the European Tour and myself on the Senior Tour. A special congratulations has to go to David Dixon, who won at Q School, and youngster Matt Southgate, who is playing on the Tour for the first time this year.

This year sees me join up with a new sponsor, Footlabs, so I’m very excited about working with them. They are specialists in orthotics and the difference they have made means that my golf is continuing to improve so please visit www.footlabs.co.uk to find out how they can help your game.

I am heading out to Spain soon to get some much needed practice in warmer climes before the European Seniors Tour picks up again, so I will let you know how the preparation for the 2012 season has gone on my return.

Take care and keep practising!
