Top 2-FORE!-1 venue Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf and Spa in Cheshire plays host to Lee Westwood Golf School’s first Junior Open in August.
Portal is home to one of only three schools set up in the UK by the former world number one, Lee Westwood OBE and is the chosen venue for the debut tournament.
“Portal is a great venue to host such a prestigious and exciting tournament like this and we are really excited to be part of it,” said Stuart Leech, PGA director of Golf at Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf and Spa.
“It is a great honour to be linked with the Lee Westwood Golf School and we are sure we can make it the best junior tournament in the country.”
The 18-hole Championship and Premier Golf Courses and 9-hole Arderne course have established Portal as a leading all-round golfing venue.
Stuart added: “The tournament will be played on the Premier course, which offers grandstand finish and will be great for all those taking part.”
Macdonald Portal has been working in partnership with the Lee Westwood Golf School for two years and now has more than 40 students taking the full-time two-year BTEC programme combining golf and education.
Students are based on site meaning they can make full use of the golf courses, practice facilities and training aids without the need to travel.
“On average students taking the BTEC through the school are achieving double the national average grades,” Stuart added.
“Students get an all-round education as well as the opportunity to reduce their handicaps considerably whilst they are here.”
The Lee Westwood Golf School Junior Open takes place at Portal on Friday, August 24 and prizes will be awarded to U14, U16 and U18 champions in both boys and girls categories with two overall winners. There will also be awards for nearest the pin and longest drive.
A five day training event is also available for players wanting to polish their skills the week before the tournament.
