It’s no good being able to make the perfect swing and hit the ball to an exact distance with every club (the chance would be a fine thing) if you don’t know how far you’ve got to the pin.
The introduction of GPS and rangefinders has made this easier than ever before but some traditionalists prefer to pace it out from yardage markers or simply have a quick look and estimate.
