Dana Garmany, the founder, CEO and Chairman of Troon – the leader in upscale course management –  is celebrating after being named the most powerful man in golf at the 2012 KPMG Golf Business Forum.

It was the second straight time Garmany has topped the list, after finishing runner-up in 2009. Other well-known golfers in the list included Jack Nicklaus (second), Tim Finchem, CEO PGA Tour (seventh), Chief Executive of the R&A Group, Peter Dawson (eighth), Wally Uihlein, CEO of Acushnet (21st), Tiger Woods (24th) and world number one, Rory McIlroy (30th).

He also claimed the illustrious ‘Lifetime Achievement Award,’ won in previous years by the likes of Nicklaus, Gary Player and Greg Norman.  The award is in recognition of Garmany’s significant contributions to the golf industry over the last 30 years, including helping his company to operate in over 25 countries and at over 200 venues around the world.

“I accept this award on behalf of all the Troon associates, whose commitment and passion to the golf business are the very reason I am stood here today,” commented Garmany. “It’s been a good run and it’s truly an honour to be amongst friends and recognised industry leaders to accept this award.”

Garmany founded Troon Golf in 1990, utilising his experience in the golf and hospitality industry to produce quality playing surfaces and off-course hospitality, which is completely unrivalled in the golf industry. His leadership at Troon created a company that continues to set standards for domestic and international daily fee, resort, and private golf courses.

Troon’s reputation is underlined by the calibre of venues around the world in which the company currently operates, including the Troon North in Arizona, the company’s founding venue, Indian Wells in California, Kapalua, Hawaii; The Grove, England; and Turnberry in Scotland.

“Dana’s contribution to the golf industry is undeniable. The respect that KPMG has for Troon is acknowledged with this award and sees Dana join an esteemed list of winners,” commented Andrea Sartori, Partner, KPMG Golf Advisory Practice. “The Troon concept is admirable in its simplicity and has been delivered and integrated to its impressive portfolio of international managed properties impeccably.
