American Golf to recognise UK’s most improved junior golfer

American Golf has embarked on a mission to recognise the UK’s most improved junior golfer.

The retailer is calling for golfers, under 18 years of age, to enter its competition. Contestants are being encouraged to download an entry form from its website, www.americangolf.co.uk/The-Most-Improved-Junior-Golfer/Junior-Competition,en_GB,pg.html and in 200 words explain why they deserve to be named the UK’s most improved golfer.

Entries will need to be delivered by hand with a parent or guardian to their local store by Sunday 15th September 2013.

The winner will be kitted out with over £500 worth of the latest golf gear, including a top of the range US Kids or adult full club set (depending on age), as well as pair of golf shoes, trousers, waterproof suit, two polo shirts, a golf sweater, glove, cap, and four boxes of golf balls from leading brands.

The competition will also recognise golfing mentors with the winner’s parent or guardian receiving a set of custom fit irons of their choice with a retail value of up to £650.

A panel of american golf pros will judge the competition and will look for juniors that have shown dedication, a marked improvement in their performance and a love and understanding of the game.

The competition comes after 18 year old Matthew Fitzpatrick became the first English winner of the US Amateur Championship for 100 years. Meanwhile, 17 year old Charley Hull helped Europe to its first Solheim Cup win on American soil.

Kevin Styles, american golf’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “The development of junior golf is pivotal to the future success of the sport in the UK and we know that our 130,000 young golfers are working hard, week in-week out, to improve their game. Recent British success at the Solheim Cup and US Amateur Championship show how strong our youth set up really is.

“This competition provides us with the opportunity to recognise not only some of the outstanding talent in the junior ranks, but also their mentors, including parents and guardians who provide the support and guidance to help their dreams become a reality.”

The winner will be contacted directly after 1st October 2013 and announced through Twitter (@AmericanGolf_UK) and Facebook feeds (https://en-gb.facebook.com/americangolf).
