American Golf Expands To Peterborough

American Golf has set up shop in Peterborough’s Nene Park, taking over the Thorpe Wood Pro Shop premises, the new partnership will allow the Nene Park team more time to focus on its fantastic golfing facilities that includes a two storey driving range and two teaching and fitting studios.

The Fitton family have run the Thorpe Wood Pro Shop since 1975, but it was decided to let the store to American Golf to free their attentions from the retail side and solely concentrate on the leisure and social side at the two golf sites in the Nene Park.

Director of Golf Simon Fitton will now be focusing on enhancing the existing appeal of the two beautifully landscaped golf courses (Thorpe Wood and Orton Meadows), a 23 bay floodlit driving range, and a 12-hole pitch and putt golf course.

He said: “We have so much golf to offer here in the Nene Park. It’s not just for the avid golfer who plays twice a week, but also for families who want to have a fun afternoon on the pitch and putt course or driving range.

“Although golf retail was something I loved doing, the excellent retail offered by American Golf will not only delight the golfers who currently use the two Nene Park courses, but will also attract golfers from all over the Eastern region.

“I would like to thank all the golfers for their support and loyalty to the shop over the past 37 years. The golf courses however have always been my leading passion so this new partnership enables me to be focused on these.

“We know Thorpe Wood and Orton Meadows have long been the entry point into golf for many people, and with spring just around the corner we are looking forward to seeing plenty of faces, new and old, here at Nene Park.”

The Orton Meadows and Thorpe Wood Golf Clubs combined to become Nene Park Golf Club in January 2013. The merger allowed existing club members to have their membership fee reduced, and provided a wider range of competitions which members can take part in.

The American Golf store is now open.
