Snainton Golf Expands With Merger

Snainton Golf, the fast growing Yorkshire-based club and equipment retailer, is looking forward to the start of the new season with a new store under its belt.

The Scarborough based outfit has joined forces with Sheffield Pro Golf, the city’s longest established golf business, which has led to investment in the stores where a complete refit has seen the introduction of the very latest state-of-the-art computerised FlightScope technology to allow for accurate custom club fitting.

Peter Ritchie, resident PGA professional, said golfers serious about their game would find the equipment essential if they wanted to reduce their handicaps and would help the business combat internet competition.

He said: “We have improved Sheffield Pro Golf’s website so golfers can check our prices online, but you cannot beat the experience of custom fitting and taking the advice of our in-store PGA professionals.”

The refit has also bolstered the store’s equipment, accessories and apparel ranges. All the top golf club manufacturers are represented, including Ping, TaylorMade, Callaway, Titleist and Cleveland. The apparel range has been expanded and includes designer ranges from Galvin Green, Lindeberg, Boss, Oakley, Lyle and Scott and Ian Poulter’s IJP Design.

Snainton say the merger will bring an extra level of expertise to the Sheffield operation but stress that Sheffield Pro Golf’s reputation for the lowest prices and personal service built up over more than 30 years of trading would be undiminished. Long standing staff Malcolm Oates and Chris Barker remain, and will be joined by PGA professional Peter Ritchie behind the counter.

“The store has had a complete refit but the friendly, unique corner shop ambience created over the years by Malcolm and Chris remains,” said Peter.

Malcolm added: “It is fantastic for us to be joined by Snainton. It will allow us to maintain our character and add a little extra.”

Snainton Golf has other stores at Kirkbymoorside, Far Grange Park and Billingham golf clubs, the Percy Wood Golf and Country Retreat, as well as an internet-based service, Snainton Golf Direct. The company is owned and run by PGA professional John Hinchliffe.
